Kuwait city, 1 Rabi’ul Akhir 1436/22 January, 2015 (MINA) – Kuwait’s Parliament Speaker said Arab lawmakers attending the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC) talks in Istanbul have agreed to focus on the issue of the insults to the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) by French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

They also intend to send a “civilised message” to the world clarifying “true Islam,” Marzouq Al Ghanim told Kuwait News Agency (Kuna) following the coordination meetings of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) group and the Arab group. Kuwait is currently the chair of the Arab Parliament Union.

Al Ghanim said that the two groups had agreed to endorse a proposal set forth by the UAE’s parliament on terrorism, Al Ghanim said, but without giving further details. However, he added that all lawmakers backed the initiative, Gulfnews quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

In their coordination meeting, members of the Arab group selected Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Algeria and Morocco to its executive committee, while the UAE, Palestine, Sudan and Mauritania will be on the political and foreign relations committee.

Bahrain, Iraq, Somalia and Algeria were selected for the economic and environmental affairs committee, and Kuwait, Jordan, Sudan and Mauritania will assume responsibilities on the human, women and family rights committee.

Oman, Yemen, Somalia and Mauritania were selected to represent the cultural affairs and cultural dialogue committee, while Kuwait and Qatar will be involved in the committee on Palestine, the official news agency said.(T/P009/P3)
