Amman, MINA – Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and his Algerian counterpart Abdul Qadir Musahel discussed, during their meeting here on Tuesday, regional developments, including the Syrian crisis, Libya, counter terrorism and extremist ideology efforts, as well as the Palestinian cause as the central issue in the region.

The ministers agreed that finding a solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the two-state solution and the adopted terms of reference are the key to achieving regional peace and security, Petra reported.

Further, they emphasised that intensified efforts are needed in order to find peaceful solutions to crises besetting the region, underscoring the importance of increased Arab cooperation and solidarity to serve Arab causes.

They also agreed that a date would be set for a meeting of their Joint higher committee in Algiers before year’s end.

The committee, which last met in 2006, will hold expert-level encounters in Amman beforehand to identify the sectors and scopes for cooperation.

The ministers said the two countries are determined to take practical and tangible steps to enhance the already further well-established relations following the directives of King Abdullah II and Algeria’s President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

They also spoke about the importance of improving institutional, legal and economic ties, which would pave the way for increased cooperation between the private sector in both countries.
On the other side, Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein, the regent, received the Algerian Minister Musahel, who delivered a written letter by Algeria’s President Abdelaziz Bouteflika for King Abdullah.

During the meeting, held at the Al Husseinya Palace, Prince Faisal and the minister reviewed Jordanian-Algerian brotherly ties and stressed the importance of activating the High Joint Committee meetings.
