New York, 16 rabiul Awwal 1438/16 December 2016 (MINA) – France has called Thursday for an emergency briefing of the Security Council on the humanitarian situation in Aleppo, KUNA reported.

French Permanent Representative of France to the UN Francois Delatrre told the press that he had called for an emergency meeting to have a “clear and updated vision” of the situation there.

France and Germany in particular, together with the other European states are working closely together on some proposals with respect to the evacuation of civilians and to the humanitarian access to Aleppo in particular.

In these dark days for Aleppo, Delattre said it is critically important to have international observers under the leadership of the UN to oversee the situation.

“This is critically important in order precisely to have not only the right reports and the right information, but in order to make sure that things happen the way we want them to proceed,” he elaborated.

Earlier today, the UN was today invited to monitor and assist in the renewed effort to evacuate thousands of sick and wounded civilians and opposition fighters from the remaining rebel-held districts of Syria’s war-ravaged city of Aleppo. (T/R07/R01)
