US COMMITS HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES TO PLAY ROLE OF GLOBAL BULLY: ANALYST

      Teheran, 9 Jumadil Akhir 1434/18 April 2013 (MINA) – A political analyst Mark Mason says the United States commits human rights abuses at the Guantanamo Bay prison to establish credibility for itself as a global bully, according to Press TV report monitored by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA).

      “So we have abuses of human rights here (Guantanamo) that are just astonishing but it is a show prison. The United States government is the global bully who like in a schoolyard they have to create something called cred (credibility),” political activist and commentator Mason said in an interview with Press TV on Wednesday.

       The analyst pointed to the numerous human rights abuses at the Guantanamo prison, such as detaining prisoners without formal charges and force-feeding hunger striking inmates, describing the condition of prisoners as “really serious”.
       “The United States now does acknowledge that eleven prisoners are on emergency force-feedings, tubes have been forced down their noses to keep them alive,” he added.
       Mason noted that while there are 166 prisoners at the Guantanamo prison, only six of them have been charged with a crime.
       He went on to say that the US commits “real cruelty” against Guantanamo prisoners to make an example out of them.
       On Monday, hunger striking Guantanamo inmate Samir Naji al-Hasan Moqbel described the force-feeding procedures by the prison staff as painful and degrading, declaring that “Gitmo is killing” him.
       According to Moqbel, he has been held at the notorious US military prison “for 11 years and three months” without being charged with any crime. “I have never received a trial,” he insists.
       Guantanamo hunger strikers stopped eating to protest their indefinite imprisonment without charges. They are also demanding an end to the intrusive search of their cells and personal belongings. (T/P09/E1)
