PALESTINIAN PM TO ATTEND 60TH ASIAN-AFRICAN CONFERENCE COMMEMORATION

Jakarta, 28 Jumadal Akhir 1436/17 April 2015 (MINA) – The Palestinian Prime Minister Dr. Rami Hamdallah is schedulled to attend the 60th Asian-African Conference Commemoration (AAC) and 10 years of New Asian African Strategic Partnership (NAASP) in Jakarta and Bandung, 19 to 24 April 2015.

Responding to inquiries from Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA), The Palestinian Embassy in Jakarta said that PM Rami Hamdallah accompanied by Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki, is scheduled to arrive in Jakarta, Monday night.

While in Jakarta, Hamdallah will make official meetings Indonesian leaders along with the leaders from Asia and Africa countries who fully support Palestinian struggle to achieve the independence.

Palestinian Declaration in Asian-African Conference (AAC) 60th emphasizes support for capacity building (capacity building) for countries that are still under Israeli occupation.

One of the main agenda in the event is African Asian leaders are going to develop capacity building programs to meet the challenges ahead of Palestinian independence.

This visit is the second visit  by Hamdallah after the first in March 2014 when he attended the Conference on Cooperation Among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD).

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas also visited Indonesia in October 2007 and May 2010.

PM Rami Hamdallah is an economist. He has led the Palestinian stock exchange.  Rami Hamdallah (Arabic: رامي حمدالله‎) is a Palestinian politician and academic. He is the member of Fatah Party and the president of An-Najah National University in Nablus, the West Bank in the last 17 years.

On 2 June 2013, the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas named him to succeed Salam Fayyad as prime minister. His appointment was not recognized by Hamas, who were not consulted in the decision. He is a member of Fatah; however, the BBC states that he is a political independent. On 20 June 2013, Hamdallah tendered his resignation, which Abbas accepted on 23 June. Six weeks after that, Abbas asked Hamdallah to form a new government, which he did on 19 September 2013. He was appointed the head of the Palestinian government of 2014 on 2 June 2014.

Rami Hamdallah was born in Anabta in the northern West Bank on 10 August 1958. He graduated from the University of Jordan in 1980 and received his MA from the University of Manchester in 1982. Hamdallah completed a PhD in linguistics at Lancaster University in 1988. (T/P006/R03/P3)
