US-LED STRIKE KILLS 11 IN AFGHANISTAN

Kabul, 27 Syawwal 1435/23 August 2014 (MINA) – At least eleven people have been killed and a number of others injured in a US-led airstrike in Afghanistan’s southern province of Ghazni.

According to local sources, seven people were wounded in the deadly incident, which took place on Friday, Press TV quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

Six Pakistani nationals are said to be among the victims. Afghan authorities said the airstrike targeted Taliban militants. The US-led NATO alliance is yet to confirm the aerial attack.

On August 15, at least three Afghan policemen were killed when US-led foreign forces launched an airstrike in Afghanistan’s northern province of Parwan. A fourth police officer was also wounded in the raid.

Although the US drone attacks have been a source of tension between Washington and Kabul, the US has recently expanded the strikes across the war-torn country.

Washington claims the targets of the drone attacks are militants, but local officials and witnesses maintain that civilians have been the main victims of such raids over the past few years.

The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in October 2001 as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror.
