Turkey to Open Three Campuses in Syria

Ankara, MINA – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has approved a request from a Turkish university to open three campuses in northern Syria.

The campuses will be affiliated with Gaziantep University which is a southeastern city bordering Syria.

The faculty will be located in cities controlled by Turkey. MEMO report, Monday (7/10).

The decision was approved on Thursday (3/10) and recorded in the Official Gazette of Turkey on Friday.

Chancellor of Gaziantep University, Ali Gur told Anadolu that “There is high demand from local assemblies and provincial leaders. I went to northern Syria myself and saw the request, they really needed it. ”

“We have ordered the opening of the Faculty of Economics and Administration in Al-Bab, the Faculty of Islamic Sciences in Azaz, and the Faculty of Education in Afrin, which is affiliated with the Presidency of Gaziantep University,” reads the Presidential Decree.

Al-Bab and Azaz have been under Turkish control since 2017. He controlled the majority of Kurdish Afrin in early 2018.

By offering scholarships to Syrians who have been forced to leave school as a result of the conflict, it is hoped that they will be given incentives to return.
