Agung Mount Launches Eruption

Denpasar, Bali – Agung Mount in Karangasem District, Bali, again erupted on Friday May 31 at 11.42 local time with the height of ash column observed about two kilometers above the peak.

“The ash column was observed with thick gray intensity leaning northeast and east,” said I Made Rentin, Head of the Bali Provincial Disaster Management Agency, in Denpasar on Friday, as quotefld from Republika online.

The eruption, continued Rentin, was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 30 mm and duration of ± 8 minutes 4 seconds.

“Based on information we received, there was also a roar in Agung Volcano Observation Post, in Rendang Village, Karangasem Regency,” he said who was also the Acting Head of Bali Province Youth and Sports Service.

At present, said Rentin, Agung Mount is still at level III status (Standby). He appealed to the people around Mount Agung and climbers/visitors/tourists not to do so, not to climb and not carry out any activities in the Hazard Estimated Zone, which is in all areas within a 4 kilometer radius of the crater of summit of Agung Mount.

“The Estimated Hazard Zone is dynamic and continues to be evaluated and can be changed at any time following the development of the most current or latest Agung Mount observation data,” he said.
