Indonesian House of Representatives Affirms Commitment to Support Palestinian Independence

Jakarta, MINA – The Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Bambang Soesatyo, emphasized that the Indonesian House of Representatives remain in full support of the Independence of Palestine and felt in suffering with the Palestinian people, as well as condemning Australia’s move to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

This was conveyed after a meeting between Bambang Soesatyo and the Palestinian Foreign Minister, Riad Al-Malki in the office of the Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (10/17).

“The Indonesian Parliament provides full support and continues to be in a state of suffering with the Palestinian people. We also condemn Australia’s actions, and ask Australia to reconsider the transfer of the Embassy, because that is a form of recognition. “Not only violates international law, but also has the potential to disrupt the world peace that we maintain together,” he said.

Meanwhile Deputy Chairman of Commission I, Satya Widya Yudha added that his party would use the Parliament line, such as holding a meeting of the DPR Leaders with the Leaders of the Australian Parliament to cancel the plan to move the Embassy to Jerusalem.

“We understand the political dynamics that are developing in Australia are approaching the elections, but that should not be used as a commodity to get a vote within the Australian government, because it will disrupt regional stability and bilateral relations, especially Indonesia and Australia,” he said.

He also explained that there are many mechanisms that could be conveyed by the House of Representatives to express this case to Australia, besides holding a meeting between the Chairmen of Parliament.
