Gaza, MINA – Five more Palestinians, including a child, died within the past 24 hours due to starvation and severe malnutrition in the besieged Gaza Strip, the Health Ministry said Wednesday, Anadolu Agency reported.
The latest deaths bring the total number of famine-related fatalities since October 2023 to 404, including 141 children, according to the ministry. Of these, 126 deaths, 26 of them children have occurred since the UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) formally declared Gaza a famine zone last month.
The ministry noted that the humanitarian crisis has sharply intensified since March 2, when Israel completely shut all border crossings into Gaza, leaving the enclave’s 2.4 million residents facing starvation.
Israel’s ongoing military aggression, launched after the Oct. 7, 2023 cross-border attack, has killed more than 64,600 Palestinians and left much of Gaza in ruins. []
