4 Soldiers, 3 Militants Killed in Attack on Indian Security Center
New Delhi, MINA — Three militants and four troops of Indian Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed while three others injured in an encounter at Awantipora in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, local authorities said.
Militants stormed a CRPF training center in Pulwama situated about 30 kilometers from Srinagar early morning today.
They started hurling grenades and indiscriminate firing and entered the training center in Awantipora, Asian News International said quoting government sources.
Troop reinforcements were called by morning to track down the militants and many troopers were evacuated from the nearby buildings in the region, according to reports quoting Director General of Police SP Vaid.
The security authorities had received intelligence input that the militants are going to strike soon.
In a related development, an Indian army soldier was killed in Pakistan firing along the line of control in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district in the state.
New Delhi accuses Islamabad of supporting and funding the armed groups in Kashmir, claims which Islamabad denies and insists Kashmir people are defending their freedom. (T/RS5/RS1)
