West Emboldens Israel to Colonize Palestine, Says Activist
Rima Khalaf said, “I’ve resigned because it’s my duty not to hold back the truth about crimes committed, which was all represented in the ESCWA’s report.”
Edinburg, 21 Jumadil Akhir 1438/20 March 2017 (MINA) – Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) has criticized the United Nations for censoring a report on Israeli crimes against Palestinians.
On Friday, senior UN official, Rima Khalaf, resigned due to pressure by the UN chief to revoke her report, in which she had called Israel an apartheid regime.
An activist says, “The imperial powers have always used the Zionist project to dominate the region from outside.”
The Western governments are “providing economic, military, diplomatic and political support to Israel, which effectively enables Israel to continue the project of colonization” of Palestine, said Mick Napier, an activist of the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign from Edinburgh, Scotland.
“Every government in the world …. considers the [Israeli] settlements to be illegal and a crime against humanity, but this doesn’t translate into any action other than arming Israelis or giving them very very lucrative … trade deals,” presstv.com quoted the analyst as saying on Sunday.
Napier touched upon double standard in dealing with Israel’s illegal activities, adding, “We have entirety of international law aligned on the side of the Palestinians … and on the other side, we have the brutal reality of the USA and the EU and various other powers making sure that Israel can flout that international law.”
The Israelis want everything
Pointing to Israeli agenda for Palestine, he noted, “The Israelis want everything. They want a hundred percent of Palestine and possibly even more with no Palestinians.”
The Israeli regime has repeatedly defied international demands to stop illegal settlement construction in the occupied lands of Palestinians.
The UN Economic, Social Council for Western Asia (ESCWA)has issued a report that condemns Israel’s actions towards Palestinians supplemented with evidence three days ago.
However, the UN pulled the report back because it was made before any consultation with the international organization.
In response to the report withdrawal, ESCWA’s Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf resigned from her post and she stated in a press conference made in Beirut, “I’ve resigned because it’s my duty not to hold back the truth about crimes committed, which was all represented in the ESCWA’s report.” (T/RS5/RS1)
