‘US CREATING CIVIL WAR IN SYRIA’ AIMED AT ENSURING ISRAELI SUPREMACY

The US, backed-up by Israel and other western countries, is creating civil war in Syria aimed to ensure Israeli security and supremacy in the Middle East region (actually in the whole world because the US Middle East policy is largely under control of the Zionist lobby).

Ariel Sharon, demonstrating the Israeli nuclear arsenal arrogance, says things like: “We are much more important than (Americans) think. We can take the Middle East with us whenever we go” and “Arabs may have the oil, but we have the matches.”
A co-founder of the Crescent and Cross Solidarity Movement says the war on Syria is aimed at destabilizing the whole Middle East in favor of the Israeli regime. The ongoing war waged by foreign-backed militants on Syria targets the stability of the entire Middle East region, an analyst tells Press TV in an interview. “This is not just a war against Syria, it is a war against all the neighboring countries of Syria” because of the flux of refugees to neighboring Lebanon and Jordan, Mark Glenn said.
He added that the war on Syria “just fits in with both Israel and United States’ plan of destabilizing all of the countries in the Middle East so as to make Israel the lone superpower in the region.” “So this is not just a war that has been waged against Syria, it has been waged against all” countries in the region, he added.
The Process of destroying Syria
Glenn said the US, Israel and their Western allies have already started the “process of destroying Syria.” Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions displaced due to violence in the country.
Glenn pointed out that large numbers of people displaced by the foreign-backed militancy in Syria are headed for neighboring countries, which cannot cope with the massive inflow of refugees. Dealing with Syrian refugees “was exactly what was factored into the entire equation when the United States, her Western allies and Israel went about this process of destroying Syria,” Glenn stated.
“This is not just a war against Syria, it is a war against all the neighboring countries of Syria,” he stressed. The remarks followed a report by the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) saying Syrian refugees make up some 20 percent of the population in Lebanon. According to Glenn, the situation in Lebanon and other neighbors of Syria is analogous to the aftermath of the US-led war in Iraq, which sent millions flooding into Jordan and to other nearby countries.
“So this is not just a war that has been waged against Syria, it has been waged against all of these countries… and so this just fits in with both Israel and United States’ plan of destabilizing all of the countries in the Middle East so as to make Israel the lone superpower in the region,” he added.
While target countries have to accommodate, feed and shelter refugees, the West will use this as a lever to demand certain concessions from their governments in favor of Israel, the Idaho-based analyst explained.
“The United States and these countries create the problem, then they will come in and they will offer solutions to this problem. But attached to these solutions will be concessions that are not in the interests of these [neighboring] countries in the long-term or in the short-term.” According to the UNHCR, the number of Syrian refugees is over 2.3 million. Lebanon, which refused to set up official camps for the Syrians, currently hosts the highest number of the refugees, while over a million others have fled to Jordan and Turkey.
The UN refugee agency also said some 4.2 million people have also been displaced inside Syria since the beginning of the conflict in the Arab country in 2011. According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies — especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey — are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
West doesn’t want Syrian crisis to end
The West has no intention of helping to resolve the Syrian crisis as the dilemma has been created by Western states to protect Israel, a political analyst says. “I think they (the West) are just giving a whole lot of lip service to wanting to resolve the situation in Syria. I also believe they have [taken] Syria exactly where they wanted,” said Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich in a Press TV interview.
She noted that Syria’s military might, which has long been considered as a strong force capable of standing against Israel, is being engaged with terrorists and thugs in the country. “Instead of Syria being able to protect itself from outside dangers, danger has been sent inside Syria, chaos has been created to basically weaken the Syrian military and the United Sates and the Western countries are fully, 100 percent behind this,” Sepahpour pointed out.
Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since March 2011. According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies — especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey — are supporting the militants operating inside Syria. According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and a total of 7.8 million of others displaced due to the violence.
Enemies seek to prolong Syria crisis
The real goal of the countries opposing the Syrian government is to prolong the conflict in Syria despite the Geneva II talks on the crisis in the Arab country, an analyst tells Press TV. “They are continuing now to talk about peace in Geneva; but I think that the real goal is to keep the civil war going on and that is why they are sending more guns including heavier weapons into Syria,” Brian Becker said.
He said that the militants fighting against the government of President Bashar al-Assad have been receiving arms from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar. Becker added that the US’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has been supplying weapons to the militants through Jordan. He said the events in Syria have “shifted to the advantage of the Assad government, both because of its military capacity, because of its international allies and because it still enjoys a considerable base of popular support and so they want to whittle down or weaken the Syrian government over the long term.”
Becker called into question the legality of the presence of opposition groups in the Geneva talks, asking, “Who do they speak for?” “They (the opposition) have been the chosen selected proxies for the Western forces, but do they actually control the forces on the ground?” he asked.
UN-Arab League Special Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi said there is a “quite large” gap between rival sides in the Geneva II conference. The talks are aimed at finding a political solution to the deadly crisis that has gripped Syria since March 2011, but the two sides remain divided on key issues. The United Nations says more than four million Syrians will be forced out of their homes in 2014 by the escalating conflict in the country.
‘Israel despises strong, stable Syria’
A political analyst says the Israeli regime seeks to prevent the resolution of the crisis in Syria as part of its plan to destabilize the region and advance its goals, Press TV reports. In an interview, Kevin Barrett said that the Israeli regime did not want a strong government in Damascus that would stand up to Tel Aviv’s policies and therefore it stalled the Geneva II talks on the Syria crisis through the US.
“I do not think that the US is really in a hurry to end the crisis. US Middle East policy is largely under control of the Zionist lobby and the Israelis basically want to destabilize their neighbors. They do not want a strong government in Syria that could apply pressure to force Israel to return the stolen Golan Heights. They do not want a strong government in Syria that could help Hezbollah and Hamas and the rest of the Palestinian resistance,” he said.
“The Israelis are very happy to divide their neighbors against themselves, to destabilize the region and essentially to destroy their whole neighborhood,” the analyst said, adding that “the Americans have become the unwilling tool of the Israelis,” to achieve their goals. The Geneva II negotiations on the Syria crisis, which opened on January 22, ended with no concrete results.
The United States and Russia clashed over the pace of Syria’s handover of chemical arms for destruction with Washington accusing Damascus of delaying to hand over the weapons while Moscow rejecting the allegation. The removal is a part of a deal struck by Russia and the United States in September 2013, under which the US backed off from a military strike on Syria in return for the Arab country eliminating its chemical weapons.
The puppets of US, Israel
The foreign-backed Syrian opposition does not represent the people of Syria as it is basically acting as a proxy of the United States and the Israeli regime, a political analyst says. “Those who are representing the opposition in Switzerland, they are merely the handpicked puppets of the United States. They act as if they are representing the Syrian people, when in fact they represent the interests of the United States and NATO and Israel,” said Eric Draitser in a Press TV interview.
The analyst argued that while the so-called opposition claims to be the representative of the Syrian nation, the foreign-backed Takfiri extremists are the main group that fights against the Syrian government. He said, “As long as the opposition is unwilling to come together against terrorism and against the foreign elements that are financing this war on Syria, until such time that is going to happen, then the war continues.”
Takfiris staining image of Islam
Deputy Speaker of Iran Majlis Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi-Fard has warned that crimes committed by the foreign-backed Takfiri militants in Syria are aimed at blackening the image of Islam. “The Takfiri currents in Syria are blackening the image of Islam under the auspices of the US. Therefore all the Muslim countries must prevent the escalation of the violence through unity,” said Aboutorabi-Fard on the sidelines of Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) in Pakistan.
Aboutorabi-Fard made the comments in a meeting with Haji Moazzam bin Haji Ibrahim, the head of Malaysia’s parliamentary delegation to the summit. The Iranian lawmaker also expressed regret that the big powers seek to spread violence and terrorism across the Muslim world. The Malaysian parliamentarian, for his part, called on Muslims to stand united and avoid division. Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. The United States continues to support the militancy in the Arab state, an analyst says. William Jones, with the Executive Intelligence Review, described Washington’s decision to send more arms to the militants in Syria as a “contradictory policy.” According to Jones,“They (Americans) are feeding in more guns and ammunition. The violence will increase and it’s hard to see how peace negotiations under those circumstances can lead to a lasting peace.”
Jones made the statements after Reuters reported earlier this week that lawmakers in the US Congress had secretly approved the provision of US arms to the Takfiri militants fighting against the Syrian government. Reports also say the US increased more than twice its supply of light weaponry and munitions to the militants linked to the so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA)’s Supreme Military Command in the month of January. The military command is aligned with the Western-backed opposition Syrian National Coalition (SNC).
EU militants in Syria threat to all
The militants who have travelled from Europe and joined terrorists in Syria may return to their homeland and pose a threat to Europe and the regional countries, a senior Iranian official has warned. “They may go back to Afghanistan, they may come to Iran, and they may go back to Europe. It’s a common danger, a common concern for all of us,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi said in an interview with the Irish Examiner.
The Iranian official pointed to the recent assassination of an Iranian diplomat in Yemen and said “This is one of the dangers threatening all of us in the region. It’s not only contained in Yemen, it could spread to the whole region and maybe to Europe.” On January 18, Abolqasem Asadi, the commercial attaché at the Iranian embassy in Sana’a, was gunned down by members of a terrorist group outside the Iranian ambassador’s residence in the Yemeni capital.
The Iranian official further said that if Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was forced to stand down, the country would be left as a “haven for terrorists.” “We would face a failed situation in Syria which would be a haven for all these terrorists.”
Syrian people must decide their future
An Iranian lawmaker has rejected foreign intervention as a means to resolve the crisis in Syria, underlining the importance of the Syrian people’s resolve in deciding the country’s future. “Foreign countries should not impose their will on the Syrian nation. The Syrian government is legitimate and the people’s will has a considerable impact in the country’s political future,” said Deputy Chairman of Iran Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Mansour Haqiqatpour.
“Any decision by the people at the ballot boxes should be respected by the world. The fact that the US officials are making decisions for the future of the Syrian government is not congruent with any democratic principles,” he pointed out. The opposition and its Western supporters, including the US, insist that President Bashar al-Assad must step down and a transitional government be formed in Syria. However, Damascus has rejected the demand, arguing that the foreign-backed coalition does not represent the Syrian opposition. (T/E01/IR)
