Gaza, MINA – All UNRWA institutions in Gaza were closed on Monday and thousands of students did not go to their schools as part of a general strike launched by the UN Agency’s employees.

According to the UNRWA employees union, the strike came as a protest step against the US president Donald Trump’s decision to reduce aid to UNRWA.

The union’s secretary Yousuf Hamdouna said that mass rallies will be organized in which all UNRWA employees will participate to call for protecting the Palestinian refugees’ rights in all fields especially education and health.

The US had earlier decided to cut its aid to UNRWA, which means that the Agency’s services might be halted completely in its five areas of operation.(R/R04/RS5)
