Jeddah, MINA – The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the UN Committee on the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP) will hold an international conference on the current situation in Israeli occupied East Jerusalem.

Following the shooting of three Palestinians and two Israeli policemen in the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, Israeli authorities closed the Muslims site, citing security concerns, banning Friday prayers for the first time since 1969, MEMO reported.

The move prompted anger among Muslim worshippers and was condemned by Palestinian religious and political leaders, Jordan and the OIC.

In a statement today, the OIC confirmed that an international conference to discuss the volatile situation will be held on Thursday in Baku, Azerbaijan, with participation of a “group of Palestinian and international thinkers, politicians and experts”.

The conference will focus on East Jerusalem which is currently under “occupation, settlement expansion and demographic shift,” said the OIC, as well as being subjected to “Israeli assault” witnessed during the latest escalation of violence against Al-Aqsa Mosque.(T/R04/RE1)
