A Total of 527 Journalists to Cover the OIC Extraordinary Summit

Jakarta, 24 Jumadil Awwal 1437/3 March 2016 (MINA) – A total of 527 journalists both domestic and foreign will cover the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Extraordinary Summit slated to take place here  from March 5 to 7.

This was disclosed by the Director General of Information and Public Communication of the Ministry of Information and Communication Djoko Agung Harijadi in a media briefing on Thursday (3/3).

“Registration for reporters covering the summit has started from February 15 to March 1. We have set  a target of 500 journalists will be covering and that number has been exceeded,” said Djoko.

According to Joko,   their number reached 527 journalists, consisting of 391 domestic journalists and 136 foreign journalists.

However, there are many journalists who complained to the organizers that they have not received a confirmation letter to obtain identification cards for media coverage of the summit activities.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Multilateral Affairs of the Foreign Affairs Ministry Hasan Kleib said  as many as 47 of the 56 OIC member countries have confirmed  their participation in the upcoming OIC Extraordinary Summit, which will discuss the issue of Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif.

“The five permanent members of the UN Security Council, the United States, China, France, Britain and Russia will attend the summit,” said Hasan.

Not only that, said Hasan, two permanent members of the UNSC, Russia and the US, will play their role as members of the Middle East Peace Quartet together with the UN and the European Union. (L/P008/R07)
