Taekwondo Athlet Defia wins First Gold for Indonesia

 

Jakarta, MINA – Indonesia won the first gold medal from women`s Poomsae individually at the 18th Asian Games here on Sunday.

Defia Rosmaniar successfully defeated Iranian athlete Salahshouri Marjan with a score of 8,690 – 8,470. in the final which took place at the Jakarta Convention Center.

President Jokowi was present at the arena. wearing a red jacket accompanied by the Minister of Youth and Sports Imam Nahrawi and the Chef de Mission (CdM) Indonesian Contingent, Comm. Pol Syafruddin.

Before competing in the final, Defia had time to meet tough opponents. In the last 16, the 1995-born Muslim woman removed Wong Kai Yu from Hong Kong, while in the quarter-finals he defeated Tuyet Van Chau from Vietnam.

In the semifinal round, Defia met with a Korean Yun representative. He won with a score of 8,520 – 8,400.

In individual men’s, male and female numbers, Indonesia failed to pass its representative. On the first day of the 2018 Asian Games, taekwondo provided four gold for grabs.

Success at the 2018 Asian Games adds to Defia’s title. Previously, he had also won a gold medal for women’s poomsae individual numbers in the 2018 Asia Taekwondo Championship which took place in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, May 24-28, 2018.

Defia also won a bronze medal in the Poomsae pair category when paired with Muhammad Abdurrahman Wahyu in the event.

This is Indonesia’s second medal at the 2018 Asian Games. Previously, wushu athlete, Edgar Xavier bagged a silver medal in the men’s cangquan, which was held in Jiexpo, Kemayoran, Jakarta, Sunday (8/19) morning.(LT/R04/RS5)
