Indonesia Sets Eyes at Tokyo Olympics 2020 after Achieving Success at the 2018 Asian Games

Indonesia’s success in 2018 Asian Games is a valuable capital to face 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Sport discilpines in which Inadonesian athletes win gold medals are not only Badminton and Weightlifting, but also Karate and  Sport Climbing.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics to be held two years ahead, but some of the achievements of young Indonesian athletes should be projected.

”For instance, from Karate sport, there is Sergeant Rifki Ardiansyah. Although he is still 20 years old but he has tremendous potential,”.

Rifki defeated his opponent with a score of 9-7 in the final round, an Iranian karate who known as a world champion and gold winner at the 2014 Asian Games, Amir Mahdi Zadeh,” the Ministry of Youth reported.

Moreover, from Sport Climbing athletes, Aries Susanti Rahayu has also potential to be prepared maximally for 2020 Olympics.

Aries Susanti’s achievement at the 2018 Asian Games succeed contributing two gold medals from singles and women’s teams.

Although Aries is a hijaber or known as Indonesian Spiderwomen, but she was able to win gold medal in the Sport Climbing World Cup series in Chongqing, China.

Aries said, the strength of the Indonesian team is on equal with other countries in the Rock Climbing World Cup series in Russia and China.

“The heavy competitors at Asian Games come from China, Iran and Kazakhstan but for the world championship, there are Russian, French and other teams,” Aries said.

The Indonesian Sport Climbing team won a total of 1 gold medal, 3 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals in three series of World Sportk Climbing in Russia and China.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Badminton sports satisfied their target by winning 2 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze.

The gold medal is won by Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo / Marcus Fernaldi Gideon after defeating their fellow Indonesian Fajar Alfian / Muhammad Rian Ardianto in the final match of the men’s doubles at 2018 the Asian Games. It continues the Indonesian Badminton men’s gold tradition at the Asian Games.

Kevin / Marcus’s gold became the third time in a row that Indonesia won the Asian Games men’s doubles. Two previous editions of Indonesia also triumphed through Markis Kido / Hendra Setiawan (2010) and Mohammad Ahsan / Hendra Setiawan (2014).

The Minister of Youth and Sports Imam Nahrawi feels happy and proud of the Olympic sport which was competed at this year’s Asian Games could achieve the target successfully.

He said that Indonesia’s success at the Olympic Games is seen in Weightlifting, Rock Climbing, Karate, Tennis, Rowing, and Badminton. Those sport seems to have the potential to get a gold medal at the upcoming 2020 Olympics. (TR /R01/RS5)
