Jakarta, MINA – The attention of the Indonesian Government towards Rohingya refugees is considered good. Thus, Rohingya refugees in Indonesia appreciate the readiness of the government to protect them.

“We are treated well while here. We feel safe in carrying out various activities in Indonesia that we have never felt in our own country (Myanmar),” said a Rohingya refugee, Muhammad Zubair, as reported by Republika Online.

Zubair expressed his gratitude for the attention of Indonesian Government representing his other refugees at a discussion held by the Indonesian Political Study Circle (LSPI) and the House of Democracy in Cikini Area, Jakarta, Saturday (11/24).

According to Zubair, he and other refugees could feel safety and security in carrying out various activities in the shelter and other activities. “The Indonesian leader and government are very good, very Islamic, unlike in our country, the Indonesian people should be grateful,” he said.

Zubair even admitted that he was jealous of Indonesian people who were free to do activities such as taking part in elections. He revealed, in his own country the Rohingya ethnic group did not have a voice and an identity card, because they were not considered citizens.

“In fact, we are hostile and have no protection by the government of our own country,” he added.

Furthermore, Zubair stressed that if he and other Rohingya ethnic groups in various countries including Indonesia, it was not to threaten security but to obtain protection. To prove his words, he and the Rohingya community were even ready to assist the Indonesian security forces in carrying out their duties.

“We are not radicals or terrorists, we are here because we need protection, and we are grateful the Indonesian government gave it,” he said. (T/Sj/RS5)
