Gaza City, Palestine, MINA – Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer Tuesday met Yahya al-Senwar, chief of Hamas group in the Gaza Strip.

Following the meeting, Maurer, who is on a three-day visit to Israel-Palestine, told reporters that his meeting with al-Senwar in Gaza was “fruitful”.
“We discussed the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the need to respect the international law,” he added.
Suhair Zaqout, spokeswoman for the Red Cross in Gaza, told Anadolu Agency that Maurer’s visit was aimed at examining the humanitarian situation and meeting Palestinian and Israeli officials.
She added that the head of ICRC is also scheduled to meet the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the city of Ramallah.
