REAL MADRID TO DONATE €1M TO REFUGEES IN SPAIN
Madrid, 21 Dhulqo’dah 1436/5 September 2015 (MINA) – One of the biggest football club Real Madrid has said it will donate €1m to aid refugees that are taken in by Spain.
It follows similar moves by Bayern Munich and Celtic, who this week pledged to provide help to people affected by the refugee crisis. RTE quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
Thousands of people are trying to reach mainland Europe as they flee conflict in their own countries, such as Syria, Libya and Afghanistan.
Real Madrid said it had made the decision after its president Florentino Pérez spoke to Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy yesterday.
It said: “Faithful to its commitment to charity, the club has taken this decision with the aim of supporting men, women and children who have been forced to leave their homes in order to flee from war and death.
“The club is considering various initiatives and schemes with a special focus placed on the youngest refugees.
“It will also make some of the club’s infrastructure and sports goods available to the Executive’s interministerial commission that organises the system for receiving refugees.”
Thousands have crossed into Germany via Hungary and Austria with Munich’s train station one of the main points of entry.
Bayern will also donate €1m and will set up a training camp for those arriving in Munich, as the number coming to the city rises.
Bayern’s youth academy will set up the training camp for kids, in conjunction with the city of Munich and apart from regular training, it will also offer meals and German language classes. (T/R03/R04)
