Putin Quotes Verses of the Quran, Calls for Peace in Yemen

Ankara, MINA – Russian President Vladimir Putin quoted a verse from the Quran to call for peace in Yemen.

Russia Today reported that Putin quoted the verse of the Quran chapter Ali Imron verse 103. “… And remember the favor of Allah upon you – when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers,” Putin said, quoting verses from the Quran.

He said this during his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, in Ankara, Turkey, Monday, Sept 16.

Putin also added that in Islamic teachings war is only allowed to defend oneself.

“Fight in the way of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress. Indeed. Allah does not like transgressors,” Putin quoted the translation of the Quran chapter Al-Baqarah verse 190.

According to reports, Putin’s reference to the verses of the Koran was approved by Erdogan and Rouhani. The three presidents met in Turkey to discuss peace in Yemen and the Syrian situation.

Since March 2015 Yemen has suffered from ongoing conflict, known as Yemen’s civil war. (T/ Ais/P2)
