Palestinian Official Calls for “Boycotting” Israel’s Judiciary

Palestinian prisoners released in exchange for soldier Gilad Shalit in October last year (from L) Nael al-Barghouti, Othman Musleh and Abdullah Abu Shalbak have found it tough to readjust to their lives – Al Arabiya.

Ramallah, 30 Jumadil Awwal 1438/27 February 2017 (MINA) – Issa Qaraqe’, head of the Palestinian authority for released prisoners’ affairs, on Sunday urged Palestinians to “boycott” the Israeli judiciary in retaliation for Tel Aviv’s slapping a sentence of life imprisonment against the freed prisoner Nael Al-Barghouthi.

Speaking at a news conference in Ramallah, he said, “we have to take the hard decision of boycotting the Israeli courts and staging civil disobedience so that Israel may prosecute us in absentia.

“If Israel does not feel concerned and sense the people rebellion against its courts, it will continue to breach international humanitarian laws.”

The Israeli court that sentenced the soldier who killed Abdelfattah Al-Sherif in Hebron to 18 months in prison, later ruled to place Al-Barghouthi behind bars for life.

“This is a charade, negligence of the Palestinian people and expression of utter fascism and racism by the Israeli military courts,” he said, alluding to the recent cold-blood killing of the injured Palestinian.

Al-Barghouthi, 58, had been released as part of an Israeli-Palestinian prisoners’ swap deal in 2011. He had spent 34 years behind bars before he was freed as part of the deal. He was re-asserted in June 2014. (T/RS05/RS01)
