Palestine to Complain over Honduras at the United Nations
Ramallah, MINA – Palestinian Foreign Ministry said that would file a complaint at the United Nations against Honduras, after the Central American country recognized the city of Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel.
Israel considers all of Jerusalem as its undivided capital city, while Palestinians see the eastern part of city as the capital city of their future state.
US President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital city of Jewish state in December 2017, an act of violation with decades of international consensus that the status of city must be decided in peace talks.
Washington and Israel have since encouraged other countries to take similar steps.
So far, only Guatemala and Paraguay have moved their embassies to Jerusalem, but Paraguay later reversed its decision.
On Tuesday, Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez announced that his country would open a diplomatic office in Jerusalem.
The mission will be an extension of Honduran Embassy based in Tel Aviv.
Palestinian Foreign Ministry called the decision “direct aggression” against Palestinian people and “blatant violations of international law and legitimacy.” (T/Sj/P2)
