Rio de Janeiro, 15 Dzulqa’dah 1437/18 August 2016 (MINA) – Malaysia’s dream of winning its first Olympic gold went out in just 44 minutes Wednesday night when Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying lost the badminton mixed doubles final match to Indonesia’s Ahmad Tontowi and Liliyana Natsir.

According to the malaymailonline.com, the world Number 3 pair won 21-14, 21-12, leaving Chan and Goh to take the silver.

Roared to the title by dozens of feverish home fans, the Indonesians never let up the pressure on the Malaysians from the get go at the Riocentro in Rio de Janeiro.

Malaysia have waited 52 years for an Olympic champion and had hoped to break the drought tonight.
