Jeddah, MINA – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed Sunday the recent UN Security Council resolution which called for a 30-day ceasefire across Syria.
OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen expressed hopes the UNSC resolution would be a significant development towards a permanent ceasefire and a peaceful solution to the seven-year civil conflict, KUNA reported, quoting press statement.
Al-Othaimeen stressed the need for full commitment to the provisions of the resolution to end the suffering of Syrian people especially in Eastern Ghouta district, in Damascus, which had been heavily bombarded during the past days.
The OIC chief lauded the diplomatic efforts exerted by Kuwait and Sweden to propose and rally support for the resolution at the UNSC. T/RS5/RS1)
