Nautical Aliya Arrives in Chittagong, Only 25 Volunteers Allowed into Refugee Camp

Aboard Nautical Aliya, 17 Jumadil Awwal 1438/14 February 2017 (MINA) – Humanitarian mission vessel, Nautical Aliya arrived after 12 days Tuesday, at Chittagong Port in Bangladesh about 12.30pm local time.

According to Bernama, the vessel was escorted by two Bangladesh coast guard boats and a Bangladesh Navy vessel.

Mission chief Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim expressed gratitude for the assistance rendered by the Bangladesh government to provide the vessel special access to the port.

“This port is a busy one and hopefully things will go smoothly,” he said.

According to him, only 25 volunteers were allowed to embark and go to the Rohingya refugee camp in Bangladesh.

“We will discuss and negotiate for permission for all volunteers to embark and assist at the Rohingya camp,” he said.

After setting off on Feb 3 from Port Klang, Nautical Aliya on Thursday, Feb 9, unloaded aid at Yangon Port in Myanmar for the Rohingya community before sailing to Chittagong.

The ‘Food Flotilla for Myanmar’ endeavour is organised by Kelab Putera 1Malaysia (KP1M) and Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisation (MAPIM).

It is participated by 182 volunteers comprising non governmental organisations from Malaysia and other countries, a medical team, teaching staff and media practitioners. (T/RS05/RS01)
