Muslims Fear Trump Could Become The Next President
Bryan, Texas, 28 Rajab 1437/06 May 2016 (MINA) – After Donald Trump’s success in Indiana, his goal of receiving the GOP’s nomination appears to be more likely.
Even though his victory in Indiana was a success for many, some Muslims in Bryan aren’t celebrating, 9news.com was uoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA)as reporting.
“I think our institutions as democracies have failed to be honest,” said Saira Ahmed. “When I imagine Trump being president and having a candidate that is openly discriminating against minorities and is against the values that we stand for as Americans, it’s shameful.”
Others feel Trump is a green light for those who are afraid of Muslims to act on their fear.
“People get very brave when they have someone that powerful telling them ‘I’ll pay for your bail,'” said college student Danielle Gore who attends the Mosque in Bryan.
“Maybe things that people didn’t do before because they were afraid, they’re much more likely to do it now,” she said.
Even though Trump has yet to officially secure the GOP nomination or the White House for that matter, Gore says his remarks about Muslims could set the tone for generations.
“I’m afraid of what this has implications for America in the future. What is this going to do for my children,” she said.
To bring about positive change, both Ahmed and Gore say it must start by getting to know Muslims.
“Come to the local community, find out who these people are, and they’re pretty normal like me,” said Ahmed.
“I think it has to start with the people, it has to start with us just treating each other with love and respect and ultimately, that’s going to influence politics,” said Gore. (T/R07/R01)
