Mount Agung Eruption, 96 Thousands Displaced
Jakarta (MINA) – Volcanology Center for Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) recorded that volcanic activity of Mount Agung in Bali caused the number of displaced people to 96,086 thousands.
Head of Information and Public Relations Data Center National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said the number of refugees continues to grow. Up to Wednesday afternoon, the refugees are spreading into 430 evacuation points in 9 districts. Republika Reported
“The number of refugees is expected to increase because not all data collection is done,” Sutopo stated in his written statement. He explained, people outside the danger zone are also evacuated. It is because public does not know the true position of the banned radius. In addition, psychological factors due to danger from the eruption is also become consideration.
“In general, the basic needs of refugees are sufficient,” he explained. The participation of the Balinese people is enormous in helping the refugees. Solidarity and cohesiveness of the community make the handling performed well.
BNPB still can not predict yet how long the residents will be evacuated. “It depends on the activity of Mount Agung. During alert status, people are not allowed to conduct activities in dangerous radius,” said Sutopo.
PVMBG reported to Wednesday afternoon, the mount’s activity counted 329 times shallow volcanic earthquakes, 444 times deep volcanic earthquakes, and 56 times local tectonic earthquakes. Visually, the low pressure crater smoke is observed as white with a thin intensity and height of 50 meters above the peak crater.
The number of earthquakes is much more than last Tuesday. Even earthquakes are also increasing. Magma movement approaching the surface continues to run. The chances of the eruption are quite large.
To provide early warning, BNPB has installed five iCast Rapid Deployment Public Notification System (iRADITIF) mobile sirens around Mount Agung, at Kubu Police Station, Tianyar Police Station, Straits Police, and Rendang Police. This siren is installed as a means of warning the community to immediately evacuate or avoid the danger of Mount Agung eruption.
