Malaya University Awards King Salman Honorary Dectorate In Literature

Kuala Lumpur, 30 Jumadil Awwal 1438/28 February 2017 (MINA) – The University of Malaya has awarded Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman an honorary doctorate degree in literature, in recognition of his contributions to serving knowledge, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

During a ceremony organized by the University of Malaya in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur on Monday, Sultan of Perak state Nazrin Muizzudin Shah, who is also the University’s chancellor, conferred the honorary doctorate degree on King Salman.

In a speech on this occasion, King Salman said: “The Islamic world today faces challenges in the field of scientific and technical knowledge as well as the political and economic fields.

The universities and research centers in the Islamic countries have to respond to these challenges by accomplishing achievements that contribute to the cultural building of the Islamic nation.”

He added that the universities represent the nations’ advancement centers, which have the mission of contribution to achieving development, consolidating national unity, promoting dialogue and the values of tolerance and coexistence among different peoples in order to achieve global peace and security.

The Saudi monarch pointed out that the University of Malaya is one of the world’s knowledge development centers, which contributed to the development and advancement of Malaysia and other countries.

It noteworthy that the University of Malaya, which was established in 1949, is a public research university located in Kuala Lumpur. It is the oldest and most esteemed university in Malaysia.(T/R04/RS05)
