Gaza, 7 Shawal 1435/3 August 2014 (MINA) – The Israel Occupation Forces (IOF) on Saturday determined that 2nd Lt. Hadar Goldin, previously considered captured by Palestinian fighters, was killed in the latest Israeli occupation regime forces strikes in Rafah southern Gaza on Friday.

A special panel headed by Chief Military Rabbi Brig. Gen. Rafi Peretz announced the death of Goldin, an infantry officer in the Givati Brigade, who then known as Israeli Defence Minister’s cousin, Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) correspondent in Gaza reported.

Channel 4 News and the Jewish Chronicle claimed the soldier was a cousin – either second or third – of Ya’alon, who is Israel’s defence minister.

Other sources told IBTimes UK said that he is Ya’alon’s nephew.

While the UK Foreign Office said it was “looking into” reports that Goldin has dual UK-Israeli nationality.

Goldin died in combat on Friday, August 1, 2014, in Rafah when a Palestinian fighter emerged from a tunnel in the southern Gaza Strip and detonated himself near an IDF force, killing another officer and a soldier from Givati Brigade – Major Benaya Sarel and Staff Sergeant Liel Gidoni.

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon arrived at the Goldin family home in Kfar Saba accompanied by the head of the IDF’s Human Resources Branch, Maj.-Gen. Orna Barbivai and the Chief Military Rabbi, to deliver the news.

The conclusion was based on forensic evidence from the scene of the attack,a statement by the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said.

On Friday, the IOF accused Palestinian fighters of kidnapping Goldin in the battle, but then was denied by the Al-Qassam brigades saying Goldin possibility among those who were killed in the fierce fighting.
The announcement of the missing Goldin came two hours after a 72-hour truce proposal failed, and the subsequent Israeli occupation regime forces attack continued since morning.

In the attacks, Israeli occupation regime forces artillery killed more than 27 Palestinian civilians who were trying to escape to the border and try to get out of the Gaza Strip despite the complete closure by the Egyptian authorities since the beginning of July. (L/K01/P03/E01)
