ISRAEL IS AMERICA’S “MAD DOG” IN MIDDLE EAST
ISRAEL IS AMERICA’S “MAD DOG” IN THE MIDDLE EAST, IF NOT THE WORLD
by Syarif Hidayat*
A German proverb says: “Bellende Hunde beißen nicht.” – Lit. translation: “Barking dogs don’t bite.” – Meaning: “As long as talking (barking) continues, even albeit threatening, violence is averted.” – Meaning: “Cowards threaten a lot.” -English version: “Barking dogs seldom bite.”
But I think in the case of the Zionist Entity (Israel), it is different. It is really a mad and very dangerous dog!
One of the Zionist leaders has confirmed it. Moshe Dayan, Israel’s most celebrated general, famously outlined the strategy he believed would keep Israel’s enemies at bay: “’Israel must be like a mad dog, too dangerous to bother.’ …our armed forces are not the thirtieth strongest in the world, but the second or third. We have the capability to take the world down with us. And I can assure you that that will happen before Israel goes under.”
Until now, most observers had assumed Dayan was referring to Israeli military or possibly nuclear strategy, an expression in his typically blunt fashion of the country’s familiar doctrine of deterrence. Today, estimates of the Israeli nuclear arsenal range from a minimum of 200 to a maximum of about 500. Whatever the number, there is little doubt that Israeli nukes are among the world’s most sophisticated nuclear weapons, largely designed for “war fighting” in the Middle East.
A staple of the Israeli nuclear arsenal are “neutron bombs,” miniaturized thermonuclear bombs designed to maximize deadly gamma radiation while minimizing blast effects and long term radiation- in essence designed to kill people while leaving property intact.
The Israeli nuclear arsenal is backed-up by the delivery mechanisms that include Jericho intercontinental ballistic missiles with a range of 11,500 km. This could mean targets in all Middle East and Gulf regions and also as far as Moscow and London in Europe are within its shooting range.
Ariel Sharon, demonstrating the Israeli nuclear arsenal arrogance, says things like: “We are much more important than (Americans) think. We can take the Middle East with us whenever we go” and “Arabs may have the oil, but we have the matches.”
Ezar Weissman, former Israeli president said “The nuclear issue is gaining momentum (and the) next war will not be conventional.”
A former Israeli official justified Israel’s threats. “You Americans screwed us” in not supporting Israel in its 1956 war with Egypt. “We can still remember the smell of Auschwitz and Treblinka. Next time we’ll take all of you with us.”
‘America’s attack dog in Middle East’
Israel has been armed and funded by the United States over the past sixty years and is playing the role of “the attack dog” in the Middle East, says Sara Flounders, co-director of the International Action Center. Iran’s call for diplomatic negotiations with the West to resolve the standoff over its nuclear energy program has deeply worried Israeli hawks who have been threatening to attack Iran.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu headed to the US soon after a trip to New York by an Iranian delegation headed by President Hassan Rouhani and his address before the UN that many in the West hailed as a first step to a possible resolution to the nuclear standoff. Netanyahu met with US President Barack Obama at the White House and one day later went to New York and told the UN General Assembly that Israel is ready to act alone against Iran. “If Israel is forced to stand alone, Israel will stand alone.”
“Israel cannot act on its own. It doesn’t have either the equipment or the political, geopolitical position to act on its own. It has been armed, financed, diplomatically supported for more than sixty years by the US to play the role of being the attack dog in the region,” Flounders told Press TV in a phone interview on Thursday. Deeply concerned about eased tensions between Iran and the US, Netanyahu asked Obama, during their meeting at the White House, to toughen the sanctions against Iran.
Netanyahu’s visit to Washington followed a landmark 15-minute phone conversation between Obama and Rouhani on Sep. 27 that became the first direct communication between the presidents of the two countries since Iran’s Islamic Revolution in 1979. During the call, the two presidents stressed Tehran and Washington’s political will to swiftly resolve the nuclear dispute.
Meanwhile, during a joint press conference with Japan’s Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida in Tokyo recently, both US Secretary of State John Kerry and Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel snubbed Israel’s pressure aimed at dissuading Washington from engaging with Iran over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.
“Even while there’s talk of diplomacy, and we wish that talk well and we have every hope for it, we need to know that the Pentagon’s strategic planners plan war at every moment,” said Flounders. “And, the real test will be: Will the sanctions on Iran, which are an act of war, will the sanctions end?” she added.
The ‘Spearhead’ of US imperialism
The US government is pressured to serve Israel’s interests due to the influence of the Zionist lobby in the United States and the role of the Zionist regime as the “spearhead of imperialism” in the Middle East, an anti-war activist in Europe says. It is “important for the Americans to help Israel to create chaos in the whole region and to redraw the borders and everything and all those plans that they have,” said Dirk Adriaensens, a member of the BRussells Tribunal in Leuven, Belgium.
The pro-Israel pressure groups in the US actively work to steer US foreign policy in favor of Israel, Adriaensens told Press TV. “The Israeli lobby, the Zionist lobby in America is very, very strong with AIPAC and AIPAC owns practically the whole political class in the US, including Democrats and Republicans,” Adriaensens said.
Israel’s military chiefs are pushing the United States for a bump in the $3.1 billion military aid the Zionist regime receives in military aid every year even as America is struggling with domestic economic issues. The campaign to boost the military aid comes as the flow of US taxpayers’ dollars to Israel is already guaranteed under a 10-year agreement between Washington and Tel Aviv signed in 2007, the UPI reports.
“They’re not many Congress members who want to stand up against Israel, so if Israel says it wants more money, I think they would get it and many people thought in 2008 it would have changed with [the election of] President Obama but it’s the other way around, it’s getting worse and worse,” Adriaensens added. “Israel doesn’t serve actually American interest, it does not, but America serves Israeli interest in the region and so I think that Israel is the biggest threat for world peace right now.”
‘Greater Israel’
An American journalist says the Israeli lobby in the United States wants to create greater Israel by provoking Washington to launch wars against Syria and Iran. “Well, everything we are seeing is based on Jewish lies designed to take over the Middle East and create greater Israel, which would stretch from Egypt to Iran,” Columnist J. Bruce Campbell told Press TV.
“This was the purpose of the Jewish attack on the USS Liberty in 1967, the attacks on 9/11, 2001, and is the purpose of these bogus chemical attacks by the sadistic mercenaries of the CIA, and [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu, and the Saudis,” he added.
The analyst was referring to the August 21st chemical weapons attack in Syria. The United States blames the Syria government for the attack, but Damascus has denied the allegation. “The mercenaries have already admitted they fired the poison weapons against their own people whether by mistake or on purpose which they received from the Saudis who got them from America,” Campbell said.
He also said a mistake by US Secretary of State John Kerry over Syria’s chemical weapons saved the world from another war. “He [Kerry] made the fatal error of saying that Syrians could give up their chemical weapons and avoid the attack which the Syrians have agreed to do. The Jews are furious, but a blunder the whole plan was to destroy Syria on the way to Iran. Now, there is no way,” Campbell said.
“We were about to fall into the abyss of World War and may yet because World War is the ultimate plan of these monsters. War against Russia and China,” he added. The analyst also noted that “the preliminary wars against Syria and Iran are for Israel and the American Jews.” “The whole plan was to destroy Syria on the way to Iran.” “The main organization pushing war against Syria and Iran is AIPAC, the powerful Jewish lobby in Washington,” he concluded.
Israel is ‘aggressor and oppressor’
Israelis have always been trying to present themselves as “the victim” but the truth is that they have always been “the aggressor and oppressor,” says a researcher from London. “From the moment of Israel’s creation,” said Alan Hart, “Zionism’s guiding strategy has been to present and have Israel perceived in the Western world as the victim, when it was and is the aggressor and oppressor.”
Israeli leaders “realized that they needed a new enemy if they were to maintain the fiction that Israel was the victim, and that brings us to Iran,” Hart said in a phone interview with Press TV. Irked by Iran’s recently-sealed nuclear deal with the Sextet of world powers, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) has called on US Congress to push for fresh sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
Iran and the six major world powers — the US, Britain, Russia, China, France and Germany — inked an interim deal in Geneva, Switzerland, on November 24 to pave the way for the full resolution of the West’s decade-old dispute with Tehran over its nuclear energy program. The interim nuclear deal between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany also infuriated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who called it “a historic blunder.”
“Iran had to be the new enemy” that Israel needed to preserve the “victim” image it has been trying to depict for years in the world, Hart added. Historically, he continued, Zionism’s calculation was that “as long as Israel was perceived in the Western world as the victim, it could do what it liked to impose its will on the Palestinians in the whole region.”
US must occupy Israel to demilitarize Mideast
An American journalist advises the US to occupy Israel that is armed with nuclear and chemical weapons to demilitarize the entire Middle East. “If you really want to bring peace to the Middle East, we can’t address the issue of Israel being armed with chemical weapons and with nuclear weapons,” Veterans Today Editor Mike Harris told Press TV.
“We need to demilitarize the entire Middle East starting with Israel and I would suggest a US occupation of Israel like we did in Japan after World War II to disarm them forcibly if need be,” he added. Harris also explained about the recent move by Syria to surrender its chemical weapons. “The whole issue in Syria is not about chemical weapons. The rebels are being sponsored by outside forces namely Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, the US and France who are sponsoring the rebels,” he said. “The main purpose behind destabilizing the Assad regime has been to hijack the concept of an oil pipeline from Iran and Syria to western Europe to break the oil monopoly,” the journalist said. Harris noted that the situation in Syria is about “money and control of the supply of oil to the world.”
Israel bribes US lawmakers
US politicians are not willing to get a clear picture of Americans’ priorities because multimillionaires in US Congress are funded by pro-Israeli lobbies like AIPAC, says Allen Ronald, an American online columnist. As the US government ran a deficit of $680 billion in the financial year that ended last month, the House of Representatives Armed Services Committee has proposed a nearly half a billion dollar increase in military aid to Israel in order to fund Israel’s development of two missile systems and to finance the purchase of extra batteries for 2014.
The proposed aid is in addition to the $3.1 billion in military assistance that Washington provides to the regime annually. The proposal comes as the US government has recently cut $5 billion from its food assistance program, forcing nearly 48 million Americans to cut back on their food purchases. “The economy is still in the doldrums and the American people are suffering and the majority of the American people are living very, very close to poverty,” Ronald said.
As the American people are “starting to get their priorities right,” US officials appear not to be “getting the same picture,” Ronald added. “And the main reason is because the Congress is composed of multimillionaires who are quite honestly … funded by AIPAC.” “American people’s priority is that ‘we want to come out of this economic malaise that we’re in right now,’” Ronald noted. But the US government “has its own agenda, this is why we have things like this aid to Israel,” he added. The disconnection between the American people and the US government, he pointed out, “is setting the stage for a social revolution.”
US wasting resources to back Israel
The United States is wasting its financial, military and intelligence resources to support Israel, says Michael Burns, a political commentator in New York, referring to recent revelations about US spying programs. A recent Washington Post report says the US National Security Agency is collecting hundreds of millions of contact lists from personal emails and instant messaging accounts around the world.
The NSA’s massive surveillance programs have nothing to do with America’s national security, but instead aims to “support” the Israeli regime in the region, Burns told Press TV. He said the American people have been tricked into believing that “the right of Israel to exist is senior to the right of the American people to live.” The US is prepared to go to war with any country or movement who threatens the “illegal possession of Palestinian land” by a “small group of Zionists” due to the “power of the Zionists that control our press, our banking, our whole country,” Burns said.
Powerful of pro-Israel pressure groups like J. Street and AIPAC actively work in America to steer US foreign policy in favor of Israel. Washington provides around $3.1 to 5.0 billion in military aid to Israel every year even as the US is struggling with domestic economic issues. (T/P3/P2)
