Investigation and Supervision for Indonesian Imported Products
Jakarta, MINA – The onslaught of imported products that flooded the domestic market has trigerred e the Ministry of Trade carry out an increase in investigation and supervision of incoming foreign products.
The Chairman of the Indonesian Trade Safeguard Committee (KPPI) of the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) Mardjoko explained that the move was taken to suppress imported products while gaining additional import duties from this policy.
“Our team has cut the investigation time for imported goods, which used to be eleven months to four months,” Mardjoko explained it when speaking at the Discussion Forum “Trade War Seminar and Domestic Market Protection” at Menara Kadin, Jakarta, Tuesday ( 30/10).
According to Mardjoko, the investigation time is accelerated because to anticipate the bankruptcy of the domestic industry which could result in the reduction of workers or employees.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Trade will also focus on imported products that can already be produced in domestic industries because of reducing product competitiveness.
Mardjoko explained, external products that flooded the domestic market such as Ceramics, Steel and Aluminum have a great opportunity to conduct investigations, especially the basic ingredients that can be an unfair process.
This is also triggered by the increasing trend in the use of trade remedies instruments significantly in international trade. These measures of security and supervision can take the form of anti-dumping, safeguard or anti-subsidy measures. (TL/ Sj/RS5)
