Indonesian FIFA Ranking Slips into 191th Spot
Jakarta, 09 Dzulqa’dah 1437/12 August 2016 (MINA) – Indonesian FIFA Ranking plunged into a ravine following the FIFA sanctions as a result of government intervention on PSSI, the country’s national football association.
Before the sanctions, Indonesia are ranked 180th and is now in position 191th.
FIFA has suspended Indonesia for government interference, a move which bars its teams from international competition.
Indonesia’s sports ministry had frozen the national football association and the Southeast Asian nation’s football competition following a row over which teams could play in the top league.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino said at a congress in Mexico City that Indonesia was reinstated after the government sent a letter notifying that it had lifted sanctions on its national football body.
Thailand top the list among ASEAN countries in 120th spot, the Philippines (134), Vietnam (138) and Malaysia (167), while Singapore and Myanmar are tied on 158th spot.
The list released on Friday also saw the top three teams in the world, managing to retain their positions.
Copa America 2016 runner-up Argentina are the top ranked team in the world with 1,585 points followed by Belgium with 1,401 while Colombia are third with 1,331 points.
