Indonesia to Become World Muslim Fashion Center in 2020
Jakarta, MINA – The Ministry of Industry continues to make Indonesia become one of the world’s Muslim fashion centers in 2020.
These efforts are carried out by encouraging industry players to capture the market opportunities for world Muslim fashion products which have experienced significant growth in the past decade.
“The State of Global Islamic Economic states that Indonesia is a country with the growth of the second-best Muslim fashion industry in the world after the United Arab Emirates. It is certainly a proud achievement for all of us, “said the Director-General (Dirjen) of Small and Medium Industries and Miscellaneous (IKMA) of the Ministry of Industry, Gati Wibawaningsih in Jakarta, in a written broadcast received by MINA on Monday, November 18.
The data from the State of Global Islamic Economic reported that the consumption of Muslim fashion worldwide reaches US$ 270 billion, then in 2022 is projected to increase to US$ 373 billion. It shows that the national fashion industry has great opportunities in international markets and must be optimized.
Gati said that Muslim fashion contributes to the export of fashion products, which until September 2019 were valued at US$ 9.2 billion. The amount represents 9.8 percent of the total exports of the processing industry.
Meanwhile, for the domestic market, the consumption of Muslim fashion products reached US$ 20 billion with an average growth rate of 18.2 percent.
“The huge market opportunity must certainly be utilized by the fashion industry of the country,” he stressed.
One of the strategies implemented by the Ministry of Industry is to hold it through competitions and exhibitions. The effort is expected to increase the competitiveness of fashion products in the country, including in the global. (T/Sj/P2)
