Jakarta, MINA – Indonesia firmly rejected the United States’ statement that Israeli settlement construction in the West Bank is not contrary to international law.

“This statement clearly contradicts international law and the UN Security Council resolutions,” said a statement from the Indonesian Foreign Ministry in a press statement on Wednesday.

Furthermore, Indonesia consistently opposes Israel’s actions in building illegal settlements in Palestinian territories.

The construction of illegal settlements is de facto annexation and a barrier to peace efforts based on two-state solution.

Indonesia also urged the international community to unite and provide support for the struggle of Palestinian people.

Previously, the US Secretary of State Pompeo announced changes in Washington’s policy towards Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

Washington considered settlements on Palestinian land occupied by Zionist Israel according to international law.

Pompeo said the US would no longer abide by the 1978 State Department’s legal opinion regarding the settlement of territory. He insisted that this painful Palestinian policy change would not leave America isolated by the global community. (T/Sj/P2)
