Humanitarian Aid from Indonesia Received by Bangladesh Government
Dhaka, MINA -Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Rina Soemarno has said that the Indonesian humanitarian aid had been received by the Government of Bangladesh and would soon be distributed to refugees from Rakhine State located around Cox’s Bazar.
As of Saturday (16/9), 54 tonnes of humanitarian aid from Indonesia has reached Chittagong in 6 shipment by C-130 Indonesian Air Force aircraft, according to the press release of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (Embassy) Dhaka received by MINA on Sunday (17 / 9).
The humanitarian aid are rice (30 tons), blankets (14,000 pieces), fast food (2004 packs), large tents (20 units), flexible water tanks (10 units), family kit (600 packs), clothes (900 packs) and sugar (1 ton).
Ambassador Rina Soemarno on behalf of the Indonesian government handed over the aid to Chittagong District Chief Administration Zillur Rahman Chowdhury on Thursday (14/9).
Indonesian aid arriving in the first 4 shipment between 14-15 September 2017 has been transferred from Chittagong Airport to the Government District Administration warehouse at Cox’s Bazar, along with assistance from several other countries such as Morocco, India and Iran who came at the same time .
According to the District Administration Cox’s Bazar, Indonesia’s assistance already in Cox’s Bazar Warehouse will be distributed tomorrow (18/9) to 12 post or distribution points in refugee areas by District Administration Cox’s Bazar, in cooperation with international agencies such as UNHCR and IOM.
In the meantime, this morning we obtained information from the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to the Embassy’s request that the Bangladesh Government is temporarily unable to grant permission for delegates from Indonesia to visit refugee camps or to the town of Cox’s Bazar for security reasons .(L/R04/RS5)
