Jakarta, MINA – Facebook will open an official office in Indonesia, Samuel A Pangerapan, Director General for Application and Informatics at the Communication and Informatics Ministry stated.

Facebook will open an official office in Indonesia to ensure better quality service. The service will be faster,” Antara News quoted Pangerapan as saying after a meeting with Facebooks representatives of Asia Pacific here on Wednesday.

The local office will be inaugurated in Aug 2017, he pointed out.

The Asia Pacific-based delegation was led by Jeff Wu, Facebooks Head of Trust and Safety. Alvin Tan, Head of public policy, Southeast Asia at Facebook, also attended the meeting.

The meeting took place from 07:00 to 09:00 a.m. local time.

On the occasion, Facebook reported improvement in services, including handling of negative content that spreads through the social media platform.

Pangerapan noted that Facebook has delivered Geo Blocking feature. Through this feature, Facebook can block access to negative content.

Thus, content that is not in line with Indonesian rules can be specifically blocked.

“In Indonesia, pornographic content is prohibited,” he cited.

The existence of an official office in Indonesia would enable the firm to better respond to content complaints and improve communication with the government.

Facebook, which has up to 96 million users in Indonesia, runs a small local representative office, while its regional office is located in Singapore. (T/RS5/RS1)
