Ramallah, 08 Rabi’ul Awwal 1438/08 December 2016 (MINA) – The French-sponsored international peace conference on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is set to be held in Paris on December 21, Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Secretary General Saeb Erekat said on Wednesday.

While France has not yet issued official invitations to the conference, Erekat nevertheless confirmed the date in an interview with the Palestinian radio station Mawtini and said that the conference will be attended by 70 states.

France has proposed an international peace conference to revive the failed US-sponsored peace process that reached a deadlock in April 2014.

An initial meeting to prepare for the international conference was held in Paris in June with the participation of foreign ministers from 28 countries, including the United States. Palestine and Israel were not invited to that meeting.

The US has not yet confirmed its attendance of the upcoming peace conference and Israel has already said it will not attend. (T/R07/R01)
