Eko Yuli Wins Silver in Men’s Weightlifting 62kg Category at 2016 Rio Olympics
Rio de Janeiro, 06 Dzulqa’dah 1437/09 August 2016 (MINA) – Indonesia again won the silver medal after Eko Yuli Irawan finished second in the men’s weightlifting 62kg class competition at the 2016 Rio Olympics on Monday evening local time, August 8, 2016.
Competing in the men’s 62 kg class, Eko Yuli recorded a total of 312 kg at Riocentro Pavilion 2, Rio de Janeiro.
In the snatch, Eko Yuli capable of lifting 142 kg, while in the clean & jerk the 27-year old lifter successfully carried a weight of 170 kg.
Oscar Albeiro Figueroa Mosquera, won the gold medal. Mosquera clinched the gold with a total of 318kg (701.1 lbs). He got a big ovation from the crowd as he removed his shoes, signifying his retirement.
The 33-year old Colombian athlete has decided to end his career on top.
Farkhad Kharki of Kazakhstan earned the bronze medal with a total of 305 kg. Kharki carried over 135 kg in the snatch and 170 kg in clean & jerk forces.
For Eko Yuli, the silver medal at the Olympic Games Rio de Janeiro is the third Olympic medal which he collected for Indonesia. He previously won bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and bronze again at the 2012 London Olympics.
Indonesia has now collected two silver medals in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. The silver medal earlier also came from a branch of weightlifting, which was grabbed by Sri Wahyuni Agustiani in women’s 48 kg class. (T/R07/R01)
