Jakarta, 5 Shafar 1436/28 November 2014 (MINA) –The creative industry has contributed significantly in improving the Indonesian economy and has become a vital sector in the activities of economic agents, stated Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association-Jakarta chapter (HIPMI-Jaya).

“The creative industry has a vital role in the national economy,” Chairman of HIPMI-Jaya Rama Datau Gobel noted here on Friday.

According to him, it indicated the contribution of creative economy, which ranked seventh out of the 10 sectors of the national economy by contributing 6.9 percent to the gross domestic product (GDP), or $46.7 billion of the total contribution to the national economy, Antaranews quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting on Friday.

He further pointed out that the creative industries sector has played a strategic role by creating employment opportunities, as it occupied the fourth position out of the ten sectors of the economy in the category of total employment in 2012.

“Creative economy accounted for 11,799,568 people, or 10.65 percent of the total national labor force of 110,808,154 people,” he revealed.

He noted that businesses in the creative industries sector comprised approximately 10 percent of the total businesses in Indonesia, and during the 2010-2013 period, the sector was able to absorb a workforce of approximately 10.6 percent of the national workforce.

It was driven by the number of businesses in the creative industries sector, which amounted to one percent per year.

Therefore, he remarked that the micro loans (KUR) should be distributed optimally to entrepreneurs engaged in creative industries.

“KURs customers are actually similar to creative entrepreneurs and both do not have physical assets for collateral. A factory in the creative industry is the brain of the entrepreneur,” he stated.(T/P009/R03)
