Abbas Slams Likud for Seeking to Annex Settlements

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Ramallah, MINA – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday slammed the Israeli Likud Party decision to annex settlements in the West bank, saying the move is tantamount to blatant aggression on the Palestinian people.

Israel, without the utter American support, would not have dared to take such a dangerous decision, Abbas said, assailing Washington for its abstention from condemning “the colonial Israeli settlements and systematic genocides against the Palestinian people,” Abbas said in a statement to the official news agency, WAFA.

The Jewish settlements in the West Bank are actually under Israel’s occupation and the annexation would boost Israel’s drive to maintain the occupation of these outposts and press ahead with seizure of more lands.

Abbas called on the international community to act immediately and halt the aggression, spearheaded by members of Israel’s ruling coalition on the Palestinians’ rights.

Abbas announced that the Palestinian Authority, in 2018, would seek to punish Israel through international tribunals and revise previously inked accords with Tel Aviv. (T/RS5/RS1)
