PM Hasina to Fly to Jakarta on Monday to Attend IORA Leaders’ Summit
Dhaka, 06 Jumadil Akhir 1438/05 March 017 (MINA) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to Indonesia on a three-day visit to join the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IOR A) Leaders’ Summit in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the association.
The Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim was quoted by bdnews24.com as telling on Saturday that a VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines will leave Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport in Jakarta at 8:40am on Monday with the prime minister and her entourage on board.
The flight is scheduled to reach Jakarta at 3pm local time.
Besides, representatives of the Indonesian government, Bangladesh Ambassador in Jakarta Maj Gen Azmal Kabir will welcome Hasina at the airport.
She will be taken to Shangri-La Hotel, where she will stay during the visit.
Indonesia, as the current chair of IORA, will host the first ever IORA Leaders’ Summit on Mar 7 under the theme “Strengthening Maritime Cooperation for a Peaceful, Stable, and Prosperous Indian Ocean”.
The leaders of the 21 IORA member states and its seven Dialogue Partners are attending the summit.
According to IORA, the summit is expected to be a game-changer for regional cooperation in the Indian Ocean. And in keeping with the challenges that the region faces, the summit aims to forge a revitalised and sustainable architecture in multi-dimensional engagement, the association said in a statement.
The IORA member states other than Bangladesh and Indonesia are Australia, Comoros, India, Iran, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mozambique, Oman, Seychelles, Singapore, Somalia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, UAE and Yemen.
The seven Dialogue Partners are the US, China, France, UK, Germany, Japan and Egypt. (T/RS05/RS01)
