Geneva, 17 Jumadil Awwal 1438/14 February 2017 (MINA) – UN envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura’s spokesperson said Monday invitations have been sent to all parties to attend the Syrian negotiations, due later this month.

Yara Sharif was quoted by KUNA as saying in a statement that invitations were sent to the Syrian government and opposition for the February 20 talks.

She added that de Mistura was in the meantime consulting with all parties concerned ahead of the negotiations.

Sharif said the delegations of the Syrian government and opposition should arrive in Geneva on February 20 for preliminary sessions with de Mistura and his team.

Talks between the two delegations will begin on February 23, she added. (T/RS05/RS01)
