Lebanese PM Hariri Receives Hamas Delegation

Deputy chairman of Hamas’ political bureau Moussa Abu Marzouk.

Gaza City, 15 Rabiul Akhir 1438/14 January 2017 (MINA) – Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri on Friday received a delegation from Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, Anadolu Agency reported, citing Hamas in a press statement.

According to the statement, delegation head Moussa Abu Marzouk, a leading member of Hamas’ political bureau, discussed a number of issues with Hariri, including Palestinian-Lebanese cooperation and the security situation at Lebanon’s 12 Palestinian refugee camps.

The two men also discussed recent political developments in Lebanon, with Abu Marzouk congratulating Hariri on the recent formation of Lebanon’s new government, according to the statement.

Late last month, two weeks after Hariri unveiled his new cabinet, Hamas called on Lebanon’s new government to safeguard the rights of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.

Following the establishment of Israel in 1948, hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees fled to neighboring Lebanon.

Almost 70 years later, roughly 46,000 Palestinians continue to live in 12 major camps across Lebanon. (T/RS05/RS01)
