Indonesia and Jordan Urge OIC Member Countries to Unite in Supporting Palestine

Jakarta, 27 Jumadal Awwal 1437 | March 6, 2016 (MINA) – Indonesia ‘s President  Joko Widodo (Jokowi) held a bilateral meeting with Prince El Hassan bin Talal of Jordan at the Kakaktua Room in the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) complex , Sunday (6/3).

According to information received by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) from Ari Dwipayana of the Presidential Communication Team, Jokowi said he hoped the Extraordinary Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) can unite the OIC member countries  in  providing support to the struggle of the Palestinian people.

“I hope the extraordinary summit can encourage unity among OIC member countries. Likewise, it  can be used as a means to spur unity among Palestinian warring factions,” Jokowi said.

The President supports a breakthrough and initiatives that appear in the summit for Palestinian peace. Indonesia will provide full support in the framework of the initiative.. The President also stressed the need to achieve more concrete breakthrough and initiatives during the Islamic conference.

Various issues that arise in Palestine, such as boundaries, refugees and water shortage, must be resolved, because the unbearable situation has angered many young people in a number of countries, including Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the Prince of Jordan expressed his gratitude for the willingness of Indonesia to host the summit.  The Jordanian government believes, Indonesia can uplift  the integrity and unity of Islamic countries to support the independence and peace in Palestine.

The two countries also agreed to develop a center of study in each country. (L/M09/R04/R07)
