Palestinians Perform Friday Prayers at Open Space in Sur Baher
Al-Quds, MINA – Dozens of Palestinians performed Friday Prayers in an open space in the occupied Abu al-Hummus area in Sur Baher area of Al-Quds (East Jerusalem).
According to Wafa’s report on Saturday, July 27, it was a form of protest over Israel’s demolition of dozens of houses in the area and showed solidarity with those who were displaced by Israeli actions.
Clashes erupted with Israeli army after prayer, continued Wafa that they attacked the worshipers with tear gas to disperse, causing a lot of impact from breathing gas.
Last Monday, Israel destroyed 10 buildings belonging to Palestinians in the Wadi al-Hummus area in Sur Baher region, so that 24 people were expelled, many of them children and women.
Several countries have criticized Israel’s actions, such as Indonesia, Kuwait, South Africa and even the three countries have submitted a warning to Israel in the United Nation Security Council.
The three countries viewed Israel’s actions as damaging the continuity of the two-state solution and prospect of a just and permanent peace. However, the United States as an ally of Israel foiled the effort.
Israel previously stated that 10 destroyed apartment buildings were still under construction. Israel insisted the buildings were erected illegally.
According to Israel, the buildings endanger Israeli military forces operating along the West Bank border. UN officials who asked Israel to postpone the demolition plan said 17 Palestinians were forced to flee. (T/Sj/P2)
