Istanbul, MINA – The 8th World-Islamic Forum kicked off in Istanbul on Thursday, under the major theme “Spiritual Authority and Integration in Theory and Practice,” amid broad international participation.

The event aims to contribute to discourse union in the Islamic world, accelerate creation of thoughts, improve the image of Islamic countries, and to bring Islamic accumulation to the service of all humanity, according to KUNA.

Education and rearranging its systems in the Islamic world will help correct the “path of values and ethics among all Muslims,” President of the International University of Africa (IUA), Dr. Mohammad Ebeid told the opening session.

Ebeid stressed the “necessity of adequately reviewing education systems, to link education to values.”

Head of the Turkish Students’ Union Ismail Emreh, underlined the momentousness of “Islamic unity,” which he noted “is not that difficult” to achieve.

The two-day conference focuses on issues related to women, youth and justice, as well as the role of education for building societies. Up to 600 researchers and academics from 35 countries – among them Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Sudan – are taking part.

A symposium is held on the sidelines of the conference on “Institutional Governance of Tasawwuf Life in Ottoman Empire.”

The first forum was organized by the Turkish Asian Center for Strategic Studies (TASAM), an international think-tank based in Turkey. (T/RS5/RS1)
