60.000 Israelis Evacuated from Haifa Due To Massive Fires
Haifa, 25 Safar 2016/25 November 2016 (MINA) – Israeli police evacuated on Thursday 60,000 Israelis from 12 neighborhoods in Haifa within the Green Line due to the wave of massive fires.
The wave of fires that has burned across Israel since Tuesday continues to rage, with new areas threatened by the blaze, the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) reported.
Israeli Channel 2 reported that some 60,000 Israelis have been evacuated from the Haifa area in light of fires in the northern port city, according to police estimates as of Thursday afternoon.
According to latest medical figures, there were 30 reports of light injury due to smoke inhalation.
Israeli police sources claimed that some of the fires are connected to arson attacks.
On Thursday morning, Israeli Interior Minister Gilad Erdan told the Army Radio that 50% of those fires were caused by repeated arson.
Earlier Thursday morning, Israeli authorities evacuated dozens of settlers from Talmon settlement in northern occupied Jerusalem.
Planes and staff members have arrived from Cyprus, Italy, Russia, Croatia, Greece, and Turkey to aid in fighting the fire.(T/P008/R07)
