450 Palestinian Children Held In Israeli Jails

Gaza, 2 Jumadil Awwal 1437/10 February 2016 (MINA) – The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs reported Tuesday that 450 Palestinian children are detained in Israeli jails, including about 270 minors.

The official human rights body noted that nine minors are being held by the Israeli authorities under administrative detention, Worldbulletin quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting

The commission also noted that since 2015, Israeli authorities have arrested nearly 2,500 Palestinian minors and handed down “unfair verdicts” and fines to them.

It pointed out that in January the Israeli authorities issued fines against the prisoners in Ofer Prison amounting to about $23,000.

According to figures from DCI-Palestine, three out of four Palestinian children experience physical violence during their arrest, transfer or interrogation. (T/P011/R03)
